Call for paper:
The Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems (IHC) is the main scientific event in the Human-Computer Interaction area in Brazil. This year, the IHC2017 invites the HCI research and practice community to address the theme “Emotion and Movement”.
This theme reflects our society already mediated by technologies, considering that interactive computing technology is no longer “used”, but lived with. From school to leisure, from safety to health, from politics to legislations, how design influences the impact of technology on society in its complex, moving, emotion-filled, value-driven dynamics characterized by different cultures and ways of seeing and acting in the world?
With Emotion and Movement, the IHC2017 draws attention to emotional and affective issues involved in the design (as a process and product) and use of interactive computing solutions, and brings to the center the debate the ethical, moral and social aspects that permeate research and practice in the HCI area.
We invite teachers, researchers, industry professionals and students who work in the various lines of HCI area to submit full and short papers. Submissions must contain an original contribution, not published or submitted for review in another forum.
Full Papers: for this track, we expect high-quality and solid academic research findings with clear contributions to the HCI area. Contributions must include relevant and unpublished findings from research projects, case studies, informed discussions, or experiences that provide new evidence on HCI research or application. Full papers must be no longer than 10 pages (including figures, tables, diagrams, bibliography and attachments).
Short Papers: for this track, we expect preliminary results from research in progress, papers intended to disseminate critical discussions and positions, as well as reports of experiences that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the HCI community. Short papers must be no longer than 4 pages (including figures, tables, diagrams, bibliography and attachments).
Submissions
Submissions must be anonymous, written either in English or Portuguese, and must carefully follow the ACM SIGCHI template (2015). Authors must submit their papers in PDF format, via the JEMS system.
Review Process
Submissions will be reviewed by at least three researchers in the HCI area. In case of disparity and inconsistency between reviews, a meta-review process will be conducted to support the final decision by the coordination. If the submission is accepted, authors must consider reviewers’ comments to prepare the final version of the paper.
Based on the evaluations, papers submitted as Full Papers may be accepted for publication as Short Papers. Likewise, papers submitted as Short Papers may be accepted for publication as Poster or Demonstration.
Presentation
Each accepted paper must have at least one registered author to present it in a technical session. Full papers will have 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion.
Short papers will have 10 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for discussion.
Publication
Accepted Full and Short papers will be published in the Symposium’s proceedings and will be available in the ACM digital library. The paper publication is subject to the registration of at least one of the authors in the event. The registration of each author entitles the publication of 1 (one) paper. For the publication of more than one paper linked to a same registration, an additional fee no higher than a student registration fee will be charged for each extra paper.
Only after the effective registration, the accepted paper will be included in the program and in the proceedings of the event. Papers not presented in the event will not be included in ACM’s digital library.
Important dates
Submission Deadline: 29 May 2017 13 June 2017
Notification of results: 31 July 2017 04 August 2017
Submission of the final version: 18 August 2017 21 August 2017
